The GoreTex Pro Shell consists of three layers, the thin inner comfort lining, then the GoreTex, then the leather outer; these are bonded together to make one complete outer skin. This means that no water can be absorbed by the shell of the jacket and so it wont become heavier when wet and most of the water will run off the jacket before it can evaporate. GoreTex as I'm sure you know is one of the most effective breathable waterproof fabrics in the world. It is 100% waterproof, 100% windproof and 100% breathable.

The leather it's self has been treated to ensure that it is Hydrophobic and repels water. It is punch vented to allow full breathability and has been treated with TFL Cool Leather. TFL Cool is a process by Dow Corning that causes the leather to reflect heat rays from the sun reducing it's temperature by up to 25%.

The armour used is another innovation from Rukka, their Patented RVP Air Protection offers CE approved protection that is 100% breathable and completely flexible. This flexibility means that in the case of an accident the contact patch with the ground can be increased by up to 100 times compared with conventional armour meaning that there is less damaged caused to the outer skin of the jacket and more importantly less damage to you. Armour is featured within the shoulders elbows and back.

For comfort and freedom of movement the Merlin jacket features a neoprene collar and stretch cordura panels under the arms, made water/windproof by the GoreTex.
